From election monitoring to democratic initiatives
Election Monitoring in Nepal
First election with international monitoring mission coordinated by NEOC.
More than 72 international and 1500 local monitors observed the elections. In 1994, during the mid-term polls, NEOC hosted more than 50 international and almost 3000 national observers to monitor the elections held in two different phases.
CA Election Observation
A giant endeavor monitoring the Constituent Assembly elections.
NEOC invited 40 international observers along with mobilization of more than 15,000 domestic observers and about 10,000 volunteers in all 75 districts and 240 constituencies. NEOC also observed the CA by-election held on April 10, 2009 in six vacant constituencies.
Constitution-Making
Nationwide campaign for electoral model development.
NEOC launched a nationwide campaign to explore a viable electoral model in the new constitution drafting process while considering the changed political context. The initiative focused on developing a democratic, inclusive and federalist model of representation through participatory approach.
Voter Registration Observation
Ensuring inclusive and accessible voter registration.
NEOC is the only organization accredited by the Election Commission of Nepal (ECN) for the observation of the ongoing voter registration program. The focus is on ensuring registration is inclusive and accessible to all eligible citizens without systemic bias.
